HOLLYWOOD, FL

Professional boxing returns to the Seminole
Tribe of Florida’s Coconut Creek Casino
with an outstanding lineup of bouts featuring
Lance “Mount” Whitaker, Tito “El
Misil” Mendoza, Ada “Ace”
Velez, Vernie Torres and Friday Ahunanya.
The card, to be held at The Seminole Tribe of
Florida Coconut Creek Casino will consist of
eight bouts, three championship bouts, including
two female bouts.
Heavyweight Lance “Mount” Whitaker
(25-2-1, 20 KOs) will square off against Russell
Chasteen (20-6-0, 14 KOs) in a ten round heavyweight
attraction. Whitaker is coming off of a fifth
round KO victory over Cliff Couser and is on
the comeback trail to reach the top five world
rating he had less than a year ago.
IBF No. seven rated middleweight Tito “El
Misil” Mendoza (27-4-0, 20 KOs) is stepping
up to the super middleweight division to take
on TBA for the WBC Latin American title. A proud
native of Panama, the 6’3 Mendoza is eager
to make his mark in the super middleweight division.
He currently is coming off a highly controversial
loss to Robert Allen in July of 2002 which would
have put him in the top spot to fight middleweight
champion Bernard Hopkins.
Female sensations, both from Puerto Rico, Ada
“Ace” Velez and Belinda Laracuente
top the women’s action on the card. Velez
(13-1-1, 6 KOs) is taking on Delia Gonzalez
(13-8-4 3 KOs) for the WIBA women’s bantamweight
championship. Laracuente (20-5-1, 9 KOs) is
taking on Tracy Byrd (13-7-4, 4 KOs) in an eight
round women’s Lightweight attraction.
Byrd’s brother, IBF heavyweight champion
Chris Byrd is expected to be in attendance to
watch his sister in action.
Also appearing in
a championship fight is Vernie Torres (25-5-0, 15 KOs) taking on TBA WBC Latin American bantamweight
title in a twelve round bout.
In other action, Nigerian heavyweight contender
Friday Ahunanya (17-1-1, 9 KOs) is taking on
Nestor Maciel (26-7-0, 17 KOs) in an eight round
heavyweight attraction. Cruiserweight Ezra Sellers
(26-5-0, 20 KOs) and welterweight Jack Cohen
(2-0, 2 KOs) round out the card.
WBA heavyweight champion and the world’s
best pound for pound fighter Roy Jones Jr. is
expected to be on hand as well.
Tickets for “Throwdown at the Creek”, priced at $30 general admission, $100, $125
and $150 ringside reserved are available through
the Seminole Tribe of Florida Coconut Creek

fight is at 6:30 PM.
