WBO super welterweight champion Daniel Santos retained his title by split technical decision over WBO welter king Antonio Margarito Saturday night at Coliseo De Puerto Rico in San Juan, PR. Santos staggered Margarito in round one and both fighters traded shots the rest of the way. Margarito had his best round in round five when he trapped Santos on the ropes and rocked him with huge shots. The complexion of the fight changed in round six when Margarito was cut over the right eye following an unintentional headbutt. After round nine it was ruled that Margarito could not continue and the bout went to the cards. Santos was up 86-85, 87-84 on two cards while Margarito was ahead 86-85 on the third card. Santos improved to 29-2-1 with 20 KOs after probably the best performance of his career. Margarito falls to 30-4 with 21 KOs, but remains the WBO's welterweight champion.
